Alfred Galustian, Co-Founder of Coerver introduces this simple first-touch control drill that can be used indoor or outdoors.
Objective : This soccer drill is focused on improving a players first touch control and their ability to ensure this first touch allows them then to easily pass the ball to another player with their second touch.
Setup: Five players are required. Four start with a ball on the outside and one other player in the middle. It is the player in the middle who will work on his/her technique.
Sequence : Each player on the outside takes it in turns to pass the ball to the middle receiving player. The middle player controls the ball with one touch and passes the ball back from where the original pass came from. Once this sequence has completed, the next player on the outside starts the same sequence and so on…..
Coaching Points : Encourage your players to use all parts of their foot and both feet to control and pass the ball.
Players need to be on their toes and agile to receive the pass.
The first touch should ensure that the ball is played in such a direction that it allows the player to pass with a second touch. The receiving player should not therefore stop the ball but should ensure the first touch allows the ball to move to a spot where a simple next pass can be easily made.
